The Virginia Department of Social Services develops and administers programs that provide timely and accurate income support benefits and employment services to families and individuals in the Commonwealth. These programs assist citizens as they transition from dependency on public assistance programs to self-sufficiency.
Foster Care & Adoption
The Virginia Department of Social Services is committed to providing stability for all youth in foster care. Foster parenting involves providing a nurturing and supportive home to a child or sibling group on a temporary basis until the child or sibling group can be reunified with their prior custodian, placed with a relative or as a last option, placed for adoption.
Child Services Act
The Children's Services Act (CSA) is a law enacted in 1993 that establishes a single state pool of funds to support services for eligible youth and their families. State funds, combined with local community funds, are managed by local interagency teams who plan and oversee services to youth.
Division of Children, Families and Adults' Protective Services
The Division of Children, Families and Adults is responsible for providing an array of services to support and strengthen Russel County's children, families and adults and to ensure that they are safe and secure in their own homes and in the community.
